My name is Tenesha Jones and I will be your 2020-2021 PTA president. Geer Park PTA invites you to join us to make a difference. PTA strives to bring parents, school staff, students and the community to work together and share thoughts and ideas that benefit children and families at Geer Park. Every year, our PTA helps to oversee the needs and development of the school. We help raise funds to provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs to our school. As the new school year begins, we would once again ask for your support so that we can continue making/providing resource and learning opportunities available to our children. Your involvement really does make a difference in your child’s education. I know our current way of learning and returning to school is not how we imagined to be but please be assured our PTA board is working hard on planning for the year. We are searching for ways to support our staff, students and community even through these unprecedented times. Currently, we are working on some virtual online activities but we expect to make adjustments as situations change in the future. I know the board members and I cannot do this alone! I would like to encourage you to join our PTA. Memberships are now available through the Geer Park blog under the PTA online link. I truly understand how daunting volunteering can be. Many have asked how much time are we talking about? Or what exactly is required of me? As the PTA president I am here to promise you that I will never force anyone to dedicate more time than they are willing. Volunteering doesn’t mean a huge time commitment. And whatever your time schedule and interests are we have need of you. We have tasks that can be performed in the evenings or during the day. So just remember big or small, your help is needed and appreciated! Joining PTA does not mean you have to volunteer or serve as a board member. By joining and supporting our PTA you have voice/vote in the decisions that PTA makes. We welcome you to attend our association meetings, and the first one is scheduled for Thursday, November 19 th . Our meetings are generally held on the third Wednesday morning of each month at 8:45 am in the schools Media center, due to students being online we will hold meetings in the evening at 5:00pm. (with the first being on a Thursday) However, our meetings will be virtual online until otherwise notified. All meetings, dates and activities will be posted regularly on our monthly PTA calendar that will posted on the school’s blog. When you become a member, your support will bring us closer to accomplishing our goals. Our dues are only $10.00 per member, with this donation, on your child/children’s birthday, they will receive a special birthday card in the mail from our PTA, wishing him or her “Happy Birthday”. More than one membership from the same family will get your child(ren) a grade level book and “Happy Birthday”. Who can purchase a PTA membership? Parents, grandparents, caregivers, aunts and uncles can become a member of our Geer Park PTA. The PTA would like to thank you in advance for your support and generous donations. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. May you have a wonderful school year and we look forward to seeing you at our first PTA meeting, scheduled for Thursday, November 19th at 5:00pm. I am writing you to introduce myself as the new enrichment teacher at your school. My name is Layal Mallah and I am so excited to be working with our staff, students, and parents in order to ensure the best possible learning environment for our young learners. As an overall educator, my goal is to enable students to use higher order thinking by creating an environment that encourages questions, invites creative thinking, and allows students to link concepts together. Throughout the course of enrichment, students will be able to expand their critical thinking skills through the use of technology. Students will have weekly live zoom sessions with me as well as recorded lessons on Schoology. Every week I will post an announcement on Schoology about the day and time for live lessons and recorded lessons. Please feel free to contact me if need be for any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to working together on this journey with you all!
